Amidst the project, I had the pleasure of sampling delectable treats and wines, immersing myself in the vibrant energy of local establishments. However, one particular encounter that resonates deeply is my time spent at Roots on 9th, where Jamie and Jordan exuded contagious excitement about sharing their passion. Their dedication to creating beauty in gardens, homes, and events through plants reminded me of the driving force behind every entrepreneur—the relentless pursuit of turning a passion into a business. Through this project, I discovered a deeper connection with my neighbors, a rewarding aspect that added a satisfying dimension to the series.
Navigating the learning curve was an adventure in itself. The first lesson was the importance of meticulous planning. Although I had a list of businesses to feature since Black Friday, I found myself caught up in the holiday frenzy, rushing against the clock. As December 20th approached, I was still on the hunt for subjects that would captivate the internet and bring joy to my loved ones. The second lesson was that what I adored as a gift didn't always translate seamlessly through the camera lens. It involved overcoming challenges like intricate flat lays, creative props, background swapping, and finding the perfect filler. Despite the whirlwind, the exciting marathon of capturing these hometown treasures was made all the more memorable by the sheer delight on my friends' faces as they received these heartfelt gifts.
As a daughter of generations of entrepreneurs, I am passionate about championing local business owners. In 2023, my goal is to collaborate earlier in the process and connect with businesses that can benefit most from marketing photography.
