Boudoir photography meets portrait photography in this watery experience. Picture yourself immersed in a bathtub, cooling off during the hottest summer ever recorded wearing something between nothing and a ballgown! It was a calculated jump to dive into these mini-sessions, and the result is pure magic. Imagine, a group of adventurous friends who can withstand an ice bath and model with grace and poise amid what is literally my backyard…. What could go wrong?
This week, our spotlight is on Nova. In this set of spellbinding images, she exudes confidence and elegance in her sheer flower dress, paired with a favorite lipstick that makes her feel beautiful. The photos capture the essence of old-school glamour, with Nova as the captivating center of attention. You’d never know that behind the scenes, we were two silly gooses playing in the bathtub, creating unforgettable memories. A tip that Nova embodies exceptionally well is to include elements that bring your favorite self to the table. It’s normal to bring nerves to a boudoir session, but we should also bring props, makeup, accessories, or an outfit that connects you to a positive perception of yourself. Here, Nova chose to pair a daring outfit with “OMG, I feel so good in this lipstick” and it worked perfectly!
Remember how I said, “What could go wrong?” While working within the limitations of our tent setup there was an abundance of white where I had imagined we would have grass and flowers. So I turned to Photoshop (beta) to unleash some creativity using generative fill tools. As I worked, I found that transforming the backgrounds into enchanting floral fiction was exciting, but unrealistic. Settling on an AI-generated fantasy that adds a touch of magic while remaining authentic to the shoot's experience; I chose to render more flowing fabrics, extend the grass textures that were available, and added smaller elements of whimsy and surprise in our final images. Truly, It's amazing how much romantic magic came out of this crazy ‘bathtub in a tent’ fever dream.
This claw-foot tub has lived a full life and is a unique feature of these sessions. I’m exploring ways to bring the warmth and charm of a bath to more locations.
