A singer, pianist, and guitar player the texture of Laura Bomber’s voice envelopes the entire room. She is the distilled spirit of a winner and when you catch those whiskey-scorched notes it’s a result of Laura cheering on everyone around her. Naturally, I was stoked when she wanted to photograph promotional images together! In her photo session we wanted to create a set of images that magnified her combined vibe of lyrical rebellion, the uncertainty of youth, and classic clean beauty.
This vision was about capturing modern styles in a timeless way, personality, and developing space for headlines to splash across the image without losing the subject. To attain this look in my home studio we used backdrops and a sixty-inch umbrella this created a soft environment where she outshines bold album titles and event announcements. I especially like the Dusty Rose backdrop, how she is perfectly sunkissed and glowing against this color. Out of all the props we tried. her smile and energy were my favorites at the end of the day. Laura embraced her own styling for this session as MUA and wizard of the fit which included classic denim pieces, neutrals, and vintage accessories.
In our photography consultation, we got to talk about the neon-western elements that would pop like turquoise, mint, and coral which I think reflected well in the blue and coral colors that we ended up using. If you can tell from the behind-the-scenes shot up top, one challenge we faced was space. The vision came together by creating even lighting and expanding into the negative spaces of the image with a bold sweeping color that was edited in Photoshop. A benefit of using the backdrop here is that we also gained the freedom to add layered text elements and replace the background color to best fit Laura’s branding.
